Before you cast: preparation notes
This page is for personal reflection, not for fortune-telling. A few quiet minutes before you cast help you focus your question and your mind.
Managing Your Expectations While Casting
Notice what you hope to hear before you start. Strong hopes can change how you read every line.
Write that hope down. Then set it aside until the session is over.
Ask about your own choices, not about fixed results. Keep the question about things you can act on today.
A hexagram, the six-line figure you build from six casts, shows how things are moving around you. It does not decide the outcome for you.
Prepare in three simple ways: a quiet spot, three matching coins, one clear question.
Treat the result as a mirror for reflection. Your judgement and your next steps are still yours.
Get ready
Find a calm spot where no one will interrupt you. Wash your hands as a small, simple ritual to mark the moment.
Sit still for a moment. Let your shoulders drop and your breathing slow before you begin.
State your question once, clearly, in your own words. Keep it about your own situation and choices.
The three coins
Use three matching coins. Each coin has two sides: a heads side and a tails side.
We read heads as yang and tails as yin. The mix of the three coins gives one line of your hexagram.
How three coins make 6, 7, 8, 9
Give heads 3 points and tails 2 points. Add the three coins together; the total is always 6, 7, 8, or 9.
Three heads (3+3+3) make 9, an old yang line. Two heads and one tail make 7, a young yang line.
One head and two tails make 8, a young yin line. Three tails (2+2+2) make 6, an old yin line.
Lines 7 and 9 are solid yang. Lines 6 and 8 are broken yin. The 6 and 9 lines are the changing lines.
Cast six times to build the hexagram
Step 1: Shake the three coins and let them fall. Read the total, then draw the bottom line first.
Step 2 through Step 6: Repeat five more times, stacking each new line above the last one.
After six casts you have a full six-line hexagram, read from the bottom up. This is your starting hexagram.
If any line is a 6 or a 9, that line may shift. The shifted lines form a second hexagram to reflect on.
The simulator follows the same steps
Our simulator repeats this exact flow with a 3D coin toss. Watch the six lines build, line by line.
You can also do this at home with three real coins and a pen. The method is the same.
Use the result to think about your situation. Your own judgement and actions shape what happens next.
